Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is an international non-profit organization that offers safe and sound accommodation for families in developing areas. Habitat offers non-profit loans and builds houses together with local professionals. The initiative for this lies with the future owner of the house, who appeals for a house him- or herself, and helps during the building period, and pays back for the house.
Habitat for Humanity was founded in the United States of America in 1976. Ever since, 95 worldwide establishments have been formed. Worldwide, more than 500.000 houses have been built already, enabling 2,5 million people to live in a safe and affordable accommodation. Habitat for Humanity started in the Netherlands in 1993. Habitat Netherlands brings in funds for the practical implementation of the projects it chooses itself. Read more about our organization on www.habitat.org.
