Rebuilding on the Philippines
On November 8th Typhoon Haiyan smashed into the Philippines. The storm caused widespread flooding. Over 9 million people have been affected in 41 provinces. More than two million families are vulnerable with no safe and secure home. Lives have been shattered and people are struggling to meet their most personal human needs: shelter, maintaining health, privacy and dignity.
Habitat is the world leader in shelter aid. Our Disaster Response programmes focus on the housing needs that arise from natural disasters and humanitarian emergency conflicts. Habitat uses integrated approaches that revolve around sustainable shelter and housing solutions.
Building houses in The Philippines
With a population of 90 million the Philippines are the largest and one of the most densely populated group of islands in the world. Almost three-quarter of the population live in cities. Despite economic growth an estimate of 30 percent of the population live below the poverty line. Since 2002 Habitat for Humanity Netherlands seeks to provide better housing for poor families and together with Build With Me you too can make your own small contribution.
